Emily Wurramara
A new chapter begins for award-winning songwriter Emily Wurramara. Since her 2016 Black Smoke EP debut, Wurramara has captivated audiences with her storytelling and music, resonating deeply across Australia. With over sixteen million Spotify streams and widespread acclaim, she’s become a leading voice for Indigenous Australian musicians.
A Warnindhilyagwa woman from Groote Eylandt, Wurramara writes and sings in both English and Anindilyakwa, contributing to contemporary Australian blues and roots music while celebrating her culture. Her debut album Milyakburra (2018) earned an ARIA nomination, an AIR Award, and six Queensland Music Awards, speaking to her connection with land and family.
Performing alongside Midnight Oil, Jack Johnson, and more, Wurramara’s live presence grew as she also championed causes like mental health and environmental issues. Now, her long-awaited second album, Nara (“nothing” in Anindilyakwa), marks a new stage in her evolution. Five years in the making, Nara showcases Wurramara’s seasoned vocals and raw, empowering reflections on her life.
